## Why

The printer is in another room, and the slicer is a big app to keep open just to see how long is left. Bambu Bar keeps the answer in the menu bar: **64% · 1h 02m**. Click it and a panel shows the job, the stage, temperatures, the spool in use and how much filament is left, with pause, stop, light and speed controls right there.

It talks to the printer directly over your network, the same way Bambu Studio does in LAN mode, so it works with the printer still bound to your Bambu account and nothing goes through a cloud.

## Features

- **Menu bar:** A printer glyph that fills as the print grows, with progress and time left beside it (or just one, or only the icon), and a pause or alert mark when the printer needs you.
- **Panel:** The job, its stage ("Heating hotend", "Paused: filament ran out"), percentage, layers, time left and finish time; nozzle, bed and chamber temperatures; AMS spools with what's left and the humidity; printer errors in plain words, in Bambu Lab's own translation.
- **Grams left:** Bambu Lab spools tell the AMS their net weight, so Bambu Bar shows filament left in grams (≈ 810 g), not just a percentage, and how much you have on hand in total.
- **Named filament:** Bambu Lab spools show their colour by name (Grass Green, Charcoal). Other spools show the maker and product of the preset you set, such as SUNLU PLA Matte.
- **Controls:** Pause, resume, stop (with a confirmation), print speed (Silent, Standard, Sport, Ludicrous) and a chamber light switch.
- **3D printer models:** Each printer family is modelled in Blender; in the app it's a live 3D model you can turn with the mouse, with the print growing layer by layer in the filament's colour.
- **Knows your model:** You only see what your printer can report: no chamber temperature on an A1 or P1S, both nozzles on an H2D, heated-chamber targets on the H2 and X1E.
- **Many printers:** Watches all of them at once. All Printers lists the ones that need you first (failed, paused), then by soonest finish.
- **Desktop widgets:** Small, medium and large, one per printer if you like, counting down between updates.
- **Notifications:** Print finished, failed or canceled, paused (filament runout and the like), new printer errors, and optionally when a print starts.
- **Easy setup:** Finds printers on your network and reads the access codes from Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer. Add All sets up every printer the slicer knows.
- **Mac integration:** Open at Login, no Dock icon while it lives in the menu bar, keyboard shortcuts, and it follows the printer when DHCP gives it a new address.
- **18 languages:** English, Čeština, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Magyar, Nederlands, Polski, Português (Brasil), Svenska, Türkçe, Русский, Українська, 日本語, 한국어, 简体中文 and 繁體中文. It follows the Mac's language, or the one picked in Settings → Language. Printer terms follow Bambu Studio's translations, and printer errors use Bambu Lab's own texts where Bambu publishes them (Czech, Turkish and Ukrainian show them in English, Traditional Chinese the Simplified ones).
- **Lightweight:** Under 1% CPU in the background and about 3% with the panel open.

## Privacy

No account, no analytics, no cloud. Access codes are stored in the macOS keychain and only ever sent to their printer. See the [privacy policy](https://bambubar.app/privacy).

## How it works

Bambu printers run an MQTT broker on port 8883. Bambu Bar connects to it over TLS 1.2, signs in as `bblp` with the access code, and accepts the printer only if its certificate chains to Bambu Lab's own certificate authorities, which ship with the app, *and* is issued to the printer's serial number, so no other device on the network can collect the code. It asks once for a full report and then merges the changes the printer sends about once a second.

Printers announce themselves on UDP port 2021; that's how Bambu Bar lists them during setup and notices when one moves to a new address. The widgets read a snapshot the app writes to an app group container on the Mac.

## FAQ

### Is Bambu Bar free?

Yes. Bambu Bar is free and open source under the MIT license. Download the signed, notarized build from GitHub, or build it yourself from the source.

### Which printers does it work with?

Every Bambu Lab printer that connects over your network: P2S, P1S, P1P, X1, X1 Carbon, X1E, A1, A1 mini and the H2 family (H2D, H2D Pro, H2S, H2C), all verified on hardware.

### Do I need a Bambu Lab account or the cloud?

No. Bambu Bar talks to your printer directly over your local network, the same way Bambu Studio does in LAN mode. The printer can stay bound to your Bambu Lab account and in cloud mode; nothing goes through a cloud service.

### Does it collect any data?

No. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The only request besides your printers is an optional daily update check against this project's GitHub releases (the Mac App Store version makes none), and it sends nothing about you or your printers.

### Why can't I pause or stop a print?

Bambu Lab only accepts pause, resume, stop and speed commands from third-party apps when the printer is in LAN Only mode with Developer Mode on (printer screen → Settings → Network). Status works in any mode, and the chamber light works either way. Without it, Bambu Bar shows a lock on the buttons and tells you why.

### Where do I find the access code?

Usually you don't have to: if Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer on your Mac has used the printer, Bambu Bar reads the code from its settings. You can also drop another Mac's BambuStudio.conf onto the setup page, or read the 8-character Access Code on the printer's screen under Settings → Network. The code is stored in your keychain and only ever sent to the printer.

### Can it watch more than one printer?

Yes, as many as you have. All Printers lists them with the ones that need you first (failed, paused), then by soonest finish. You choose which printer the menu bar follows, or let it pick whichever is busy. When your slicer knows several printers, Add All sets them all up at once.

### Which languages does it speak?

Eighteen: English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian. It follows your Mac's language, or the one you pick in Settings → Language. Printer terms match Bambu Studio, and printer errors use Bambu Lab's official translations where Bambu publishes them; Czech, Turkish and Ukrainian show errors in English for now, and Traditional Chinese shows the Simplified Chinese texts.

### Does it show the camera?

Not today. Bambu Bar focuses on status, filament, temperatures, errors and controls, and keeps CPU use under 1% in the background.

### What do I need to run it?

macOS 26 Tahoe or later on Apple silicon or Intel, and a Bambu Lab printer on the same local network as your Mac. When macOS asks whether Bambu Bar may find devices on your local network, click Allow.

### Is it on the Mac App Store? What about Windows and Linux?

A sandboxed Mac App Store version is on its way; until then, download the notarized build from GitHub. Windows and Linux versions are coming next.

### Is Bambu Bar made by Bambu Lab?

No. Bambu Bar is independent, community-developed software by rolottr. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Bambu Lab. Bambu Lab, Bambu Studio, Bambu Handy, AMS and the printer names are trademarks of Bambu Lab.
